The Watchtower Society grew out of the Bible Student movement started by Charles Taze Russell in the 1870s, and took the name Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1931. It teaches that Jesus is not God but a created being, the archangel Michael, and it publishes its own Bible, the New World Translation.
